The kitchen is my favorite room in the house. Not because I enjoy cooking, I don’t! I cook because I have to! If you have 5 different taste palates to satisfy, with very little in common between them, then you probably will understand my lack of enthusiasm to try something new. And so, my love for kitchens is most likely due to warm childhood memories of my family gathering around the kitchen table talking and joking around. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, tea, and even entertaining family guests, the kitchen was our meeting spot. I feel warm just remembering that.
I believe that kitchens are the heart of the house. Not only because we store and prepare food (needed for our survival) in there, but also because it is the room that family bonding can take place in. Nancy Gibbs wrote an interesting article in Time Magazine Health about the benefits of family dinners. She said: “Studies show that the more often families eat together, the less likely kids are to smoke, drink, do drugs, get depressed, develop eating disorders and consider suicide, and the more likely they are to do well in school, delay having sex, eat their vegetables, learn big words and know which fork to use”.
Here are some of my favorite kitchen designs that give me a warm feeling inside when I think of my dream kitchen. Imagine yourself cooking, eating, and entertaining in here…..
While we are still dreaming, how about an outdoor kitchen?
Don’t you just love that?
Is the kitchen your favorite room in the house? How do you use it? If there is anything you would like to change in your kitchen, what would it be?
