It all started with an idea I shared with my husband one day in December of 2011. I wanted to update my mudroom into a cheerful, functional and inviting second entry. I drew up the plans, which you can see here , painted the walls a cheerful yellow color (see here), made a bench seat (see here), stenciled a calligraphy design (see here), updated the cork board with fabric (see honey we’re home blog) and bought the sink vanity, and then I waited for my husband to install it and attach the backsplash. I waited….and waited…and waited…finally, the sink is out of the box…No wait, there is a problem with the sink hose…back to waiting!! Two weeks later, after several trips back and forth to Home Depot, finally the sink is installed. Yay!!! Now dear, how about that backsplash! Apparently, it is easier to draw a backsplash on paper than to apply it on the wall. See, with a vaulted ceiling, my husband would have to cut the glass tiles, which would require a lot of work {and time}. So, I compromised and decided to have the backsplash only behind the sink. 🙁
Below is my original plan, as you can see the glass tile was supposed to extend behind the washer and dryer as well as all the way to the ceiling. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Everything else, except for the stenciled cabinets would be done. Note: after buying the fabric for the bench, I realized that there would be too many patterns in one small area, which would make the mudroom feel smaller.
Without further ado, here is my cheerful, functional and inviting mudroom 🙂
I love before and after picture, so here goes 😉
It took some time to complete but it is finally done….well, almost! We still need to do some touch up paint here and there, and add a drying rod above the dryer. I am also thinking about painting the garage door a more durable color! But for now, I am enjoying my new mudroom. Thanks Dear for all your help, I know it was not easy with your busy schedule. :-)))
I would love to hear your opinion, please share your thoughts in the comments below.
P.S. I will have family visiting from Jordan and staying with us for the next two weeks. I will be taking a break from blogging during this time in order to enjoy their company. During this time off I will work on updating my blog. There are several things I would like to add and fix, so this would be a great time to do that. 🙂
I am happy to share this with

Thanks Paula. I am so proud of how it came together. I bought these coat hooks from pier one way before I was even thinking about a makeover. They looked nice before but after the update, they look perfect with the rest of the design! As for the fabric, I fell in love with the colors and the pattern as soon as I saw it. I just grabbed it and did not bother looking at other fabrics. The bench became my daughter’s (8 years old) new resting spot after she comes home from school. She says the room is very relaxing now. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again.

I love it!! The colors are fantastic and the arrangement is very pleasing. I especially like the coat hooks and the fabric on the benches. Isn’t it nice when a plan comes together so well?!
