Wall decals (Stickers) are an inexpensive way to add visual impact to any room. They allow you to express yourself without long-term commitment. They are reusable and movable without leaving a sticky residue.
I have tried wall decals before in the form of a flowering tree in my daugters’ bedroom. We had just moved into our house and I did not have a design plan for that room. That vinyl tree and flowers set the theme for the bedroom as a spring celebration. {I am currently in the process of re-designing my daughters’ bedroom see the accent wall and stenciled curtains}.
Wall decals are no longer a unique design option, but I believe that wall decals with Islamic themes are. I have seen them around the net but never had a chance to use them. So I was excited when Wall glam contacted me to review their Islamic wall decals. Below are examples of what they offer.
Wall Glam run their small business through a Facebook page where they sell Islamic decals. I purchased two wall decals; a 40 cm x 40 cm Kufi style calligraphy for $20, and a 12” x 12” Islamic art for $15.
Shortly after I placed my order I received an e-mail with application instructions. For those of you who are not familiar with vinyl decals, they consist of 3 layers; Paper backing, vinyl art, and plastic backing. This is important to keep in mind during application.
Don’t let the name limit your creativity, wall decals do not have to go on walls! Take a look at what I did with my new Islamic decals from Wall Glam.
Applying the decals was very easy. First, I slowly removed the paper backing as I smoothed the decal on the surface.
Trying to avoid the formation of bubbles is probably the “hardest” thing you will face during this process. I used a credit card to smooth the surface as much as I could. After that, I peeled the plastic backing by slowly pulling on it from the top left corner towards the bottom right one.
I have to say that these decals are not temporary (at least on the surfaces I used). Once you remove the plastic backing they are permanent!
Well, you could remove them but I guarantee that they would be damaged. Trust me, I tried! 🙂
If you don’t want a permanent application, then I do not recommend peeling the plastic backing. You could easily remove, and reposition the decal after peeling the paper backing only. However, peeling the plastic backing would give the art a more polished look.
Or, you could do what I did with the canvas art. It is always safer to apply a decal on a surface that would not cost you a bundle to fix or change. Just in case you didn’t like the look! {I will show you, in a future post, how I made that canvas art with Wall Glam decal and my attempt at creating a calligraphy decal}.
Based on my experience with Wall Glam Decals, I recommend them to anyone interested in decorating their home with Islamic decals. They offer high quality decals in reasonable prices, provide friendly customer service, and fast shipping. If you are interested, browse through the photos on their Facebook page to see their selection of decals. They also accept custom orders for Islamic calligraphy and Islamic patterns. They are based in Jordan, but they do ship worldwide. So don’t let the distance affect your decision!
Would you decorate with decals? Where would you apply them? Would you be interested in Islamic calligraphy decals? What about Islamic art decals?
